On 8th September, feast of the nativity of Our Lady, our postulant Sara received the monastic habit and began her novitiate. At the Clothing ceremony, Mother Abbess recalled how Sara had left her beloved native Denmark to enter our community, and the monastery itself is a homeland, like the Church in which it is the heart. Mother quoted Cardinal Journet’s remarks about the Church being “the homeland of love” (Theology of the Church, p.62), and the Church’s liturgy being “the place of passage through which a double current of love remounts from earth up to heaven and from heaven down to earth” (ibid., p.55). She went on: “In our life with Christ, in silence, enclosure, prayer and study of the things of God, communal love and work, we have a foretaste of our heavenly country. More than that, Christ is our homeland and our heaven.” The guidance of Mary and the example of the Saints help us to discover him, and accordingly Mother put the new novice under the patronage of Our Lady and St. Peter, giving her the name Sr. Petra Marie.
