Our Life

“Where love is found to be authentic, God is there.
The love of Christ has gathered us together into
one. Let us rejoice and be glad in Him. . .”

from the Ubi Caritas

The purpose of the Rule is to provide a framework to guide and inspire monks and nuns to live according to the Gospel, and to do so in Community under an Abbot or Abbess. We do not walk alone on the way we are trying to follow. We enter a community and commit ourselves to it. We seek God not only as individuals, or groups of individuals, but as a community. We join an Abbot or Abbess and brethren who will, as St Benedict says, be brought together to eternal life.

For us the Community is a true family where we are valued and recognised for our individual gifts and accepted with our limitations. The early monks loved to call the monastery “a school of love”; it is a school where we learn to love God and our neighbour, where we learn to give of ourselves for the sake of our sister; a school where we learn the real meaning of happiness and fulfilment.

“By this wonderful favour of God’s loving care, we have the peace of solitude and yet we do not lack the consolation and comfort of holy companionship.”

Blessed Guerric of Igny
